In 2025, Stuttgart-IX marks 20 years of operation, and five years since its major relaunch. What began as a modest IXP with a single switch and a few cross-connects has grown into a thriving community hub powered by a modern MPLS/EVPN platform, multiple sites, and a thirty-fold traffic increase. This talk reflects on the journey from reboot to regional relevance: what worked, what didn’t, and what we’ve learned along the way. We’ll cover the technical evolution, the operational and contractual challenges, how the global peering community shaped the exchange’s success story, and where it could improve.
